Background:
Kihungu Nursery and Primary school is located in Kasese district Kitabu sub-county, Kihungu Parish. The school is on church donated land and has 512 pupils. The school location is very remote, around 30 kilometers from the main road. The area had no schools and many people in the area resorted to poaching. Kihungu sub-county has historically been a notable area for poaching activity in the region around Queen Elizabeth National Park. Poaching has resulted in numerous deaths, leaving many widows and orphans in this area. While this area has been identified as a major poaching hot spot in the past years, recent efforts focus on community engagement and providing sustainable alternative to reduce the practice. This is the reason that the church established the school in order to bring transformation in the area
