Holy Trinity Nursery and Primary School
Kampala, Uganda
project awaiting funds
$50,000 for the construction of an Early Childhood Education Centre. This could be undertaken in two stages of $25,000 each. The cost per classroom will be $10,000.
background
Holy Trinity Nursery and Primary School was started in 1999 by the Evangelizing Sisters of Mary. They are a Catholic Missionary Order falling under the Archdiocese of Kampala, which aims to reach out to the poor in their area by presenting them with the Christian gospel and providing education. The Sisters link hands with other community-based organizations to meet the needs of this community.
The present school is situated in the north-eastern area of greater Kampala. Currently the school enrols over 350 students in Nursery through Grade 4. Eventually the school would like to expand to accommate students through Grade 7. However the most pressing need is to build an Early Childhood Education Centre closer to the area where many of the young children come from. Land has been purchased close to a very impoverish area in Kampala and plans have been drawn up to build five classrooms and some office/storage space.
Representatives of Classrooms for Africa visited the Sisters and toured the proposed site in June 2015 and were impressed by the dedication and focus of the Sisters and the suitablity of the land. The property is large enough to eventually house a full primary school.
